Additional Information

Produced and published by one of the pioneers of the birds eye perspective form, Albert Ruger, this stunning depiction of Oshkosh depicts the city in a period of significant transformation and growth following the conclusion of the American Civil War only two years prior. Its location on the western shore of Lake Winnebago spurred on a thriving lumber industry since its first European settlement in the early portion of the nineteenth century. The completion of rail transportation in 1859 further increased access, and Oshkosh experienced significant population growth throughout the latter part of the 1800s. The town was officially incorporated in 1853 and would become one of the primary sources of construction materials for decades to come.

Birds eye perspectives were created to serve as marketing materials for towns and cities across America and featured prominent civil buildings, religious and educational institutions, and other attractive aspects to entice merchants and residents alike. They were widely popular from the mid-nineteenth century until technological advances in aviation and photography in the 1920s made aerial photography possible. The unique style and distinctive aesthetic make them immediately recognizable and transport the viewer back in time, creating an indelible bond between the past and present.

This is an authentic piece of American cartographical history that captures an important moment in one of the most iconic cities in Wisconsin. The city's classic architecture has been preserved, and it is home to more than thirty-three historic districts that maintain the rich history of the town.

Our museum quality giclee print comes printed with archival ink on premium heavyweight matte paper. Shipped in a sturdy cardboard tube your print will arrive ready to be framed. This eye-catching vintage map reproduction print makes the perfect gift for anyone that loves history and imagery.
