Advances in irrigation allowed for large agricultural farms to produce a wide array of crops. Copper mines, oil fields, and lead mines were another important economic driver for the nation at the turn of the twentieth century. A thriving manufacturing and textile industry also flourished in the early twentieth century spurring population growth in urban centers.
