Located on the Atlantic coast in northern New Jersey, Ocean City has been a popular summer destination for more than a century. The cities iconic boardwalk was completed in 1880 and has been attracting tourists from throughout the region. By the turn of the twentieth century, Ocean City was a thriving town with many modern amenities, including electricity, streetcars, ferries, and a spring-fed drinking fountain.
Ocean City was first surveyed in 1695 and became home to a local whaler named John Peck, though it would not be officially incorporated until 1879. In 1920 the Chamber of Commerce formally adopted the town slogan "America's Greatest Family Resort."
