Additional Information
Played at the iconic Fenway Park in Boston, the 1914 World Series between the Philadelphia Athletics and the Boston Braves was the eleventh edition of the championship and remains one of Boston's most memorable sporting events. The city, with roots dating back to the earliest days of the American colonies, holds a significant place in both cultural and athletic history.
Philadelphia entered the series as the defending champions, and fans gathered from across the region to witness the so-called "Miracle Braves," who pulled off a stunning four-game sweep of the Athletics. This remarkable victory became one of the defining moments in baseball history, helping to fuel the sport's rise as a national pastime during the early twentieth century. It occurred during a period of widespread economic prosperity in the United States, following the industrial boom of the late nineteenth century and the era known as the Gilded Age.
Fenway Park was built in 1912, just two years before this photograph was taken. It has since undergone renovations in 1934 and various updates throughout the twentieth century. As the fifth-smallest stadium in Major League Baseball, Fenway is known for its distinctive features, including the Green Monster, a thirty-seven-foot wall in left field that is only 310 feet from home plate, making it a challenge and a favorite among right-handed batters.
This photograph bears a distinctive style and classic aesthetic that transports viewers back in time and captures a defining moment in both baseball and Boston's rich sporting legacy.
