Published in the same year as the Six-Day War, this Central Intelligence Map of Iraq shows the region and nation in a period of significant transformation. The 1960s found Iraq in a series of political revolutions, which consequently resulted in Ba’ath leader Ahmad Hasan al-Bakr taking power in 1968 and reaching a political agreement between Kurdish rebels and the Iraqi government in 1970. The Ba’ath party nationalized the Iraq Petroleum Company resulting in a significant transformation of the nation’s economy. Previously the company had been under British control and later sold to a French investment firm.
