Additional Information
Published in December 1896 by the Henderson Lithographing Company of Cincinnati, this sweeping bird's-eye view presents the Tennessee Centennial Exposition grounds in Nashville. The fair ran from May through October 1897, celebrating one hundred years of statehood with grand halls and landscaped pavilions.
Nearly two million visitors attended the event at Centennial Park west of downtown, where exhibits on commerce, agriculture, mining, and the fine arts filled over one hundred structures. The centerpiece was a full-scale replica of the Athenian Parthenon, honoring Nashville's longstanding nickname as the "Athens of the South."
Henderson Lithographing ranked among the leading printing firms of the Gilded Age, producing maps, advertising posters, and promotional views for clients across the Midwest. Their vivid panoramic perspectives helped generate public excitement for major events months before opening day.
This reproduction recalls an era when regional fairs stirred civic pride and ambitious cities competed to prove their vitality on the national stage. Considered among the finest exposition views of the late nineteenth century, it brings festive energy to any office, study, or living room.
