44th President of the United States of America, Barack Obama was elected in 2008 as the Democratic nominee with running partner longtime Delaware Senator Joe Biden under a policy of change and progress, becoming the first African American President after a successful political career in Chicago, where he became a Senator before running for the Presidency against John McCain and Sarah Palin. Before his political career, Obama was a civil rights attorney and academic, teaching at the University of Chicago Law School focusing on constitutional law, which would inform his work as President, where he would pass numerous bills and policies during his eight years as President.
Obama came into office during the 2008 financial crisis and worked to pass a significant stimulus package that guided the economy to recover from the Great Recession. Obama also ordered Operation Neptune Spear, a military action that resulted in the death of 9/11 architect Osama Bin Laden, which represented a significant victory for the United States in the war against terror and a major international event. Obama was also instrumental in ordering military involvement in Libya,, which resulted in the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi,, who had ruled Libya from 1969 until his assassination in 2011.
