45th President of the United States, Donald J Trump, rose to prominence after his father appointed him the head of his family's New York City real estate business in 1971, after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in economics. Trump renamed the company to the Trump Organization and pivoted from residential real estate holdings to commercial projects, including hotels, golf courses, casinos, and skyscrapers. From the mid-80s on, Trump parlayed his name, becoming a celebrity figure in the United States before licensing the Trump name in the 1990s to various products and projects.
In 2016, Trump was elected President as the Republican Party nominee over his rival Hillary Clinton, who had received the Democratic nomination. The tradition of having an official portrait of the sitting President of the United States of America began with George Washington's portrait painted by Gilbert Stuart, which started the custom of oil paintings depicting the President in their inaugural year. However, technological advancements in photography have allowed still images to become the most prominent form of official presidential portraits.
Trump became the 2024 Republican Party nominee and chose fellow conservative politician JD Vance to run alongside him as Vice President.
