Pictured here in an official portrait, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris is one of the most prominent political figures in the contemporary era. He represents a change in the modern world of politics as the second female candidate, following Hillary Clinton in 2016. Harris was an attorney before beginning her political career. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, becoming the first Asian and African American female to hold this office in California's history. In 2016, Harris was elected to the United States Senate, and in 2020, she became the first female Vice President after winning her election with long-time Democratic politician and President Joe Biden.
Harris began her campaign for president following the decision by Biden not to seek reelection in the 2024 election, and Harris selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to run as her vice presidential candidate, a move lauded by many political pundits for his centrist policies and appeal to middle America's middle class and traditional values. Harris was born in Oakland, California, though her family moved during the early portion of her life. At the same time, her parents taught at several universities across the United States before she eventually resettled in the Bay Area.
