Considered one of the classic branches of the United States Army, the Field Artillery traces its origins to the early days of the nation in 1775, when the Continental Congress appointed Henry Knox. The regiment formally entered service in 1776 and remains one of the most respected and vital components of the U.S. Army. This recruitment poster, created just two years after the end of World War I, one of the deadliest conflicts in history, was designed to inspire patriotic Americans to join the Field Artillery, highlighting opportunities that could prepare them for successful careers both in military and civilian life during a time of rapid technological change and advances in aviation.
The Field Artillery and its dedicated training center, the Field Artillery School, are based at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The branch is recognized for its legacy and continued excellence.
